THE SANDWICH

Lara Nasser really likes to watch people. Born in California to Lebanese parents in 1991, Nasser moved to Beirut six years later. She attributes her interest in social politics to this shift in space. In either country she experienced the weirdness of existing among others, inspiring her to make drawings and sculptures. She studied Fine Arts and Psychology at the American University of Beirut. In January of 2014, she curated her first solo show. Nasser moved again in 2013 to get an MFA at the Pratt Institute. She constantly finds situations that are humorous and tense within New York City’s public nuances. (Sometimes she takes the subway just to rub elbows with strangers.) Since moving Nasser has participated in multiple group shows at the Pierogi Boiler Room, Greenpoint Gallery, Governor’s Island Art Fair, and others. Recently, she was nominated for the Dedalus Foundation MFA Fellowship. This April she had her second solo show; her MFA Thesis exhibition at the Pratt Institute. After graduating she plans to continue examining public life, and making funny animated objects that deconstruct it.
